Esta es la razón por la que hoy se celebra el Día Mundial del Diseño

El Día Mundial del Diseño se celebrar el 27 de abril de cada año, con el fin de promover la función del diseñador gráfico en la sociedad y el comercio, y darles voz a los diseñadores de la comunicación visual.

Este día surgió por iniciativa del Consejo Internacional de Asociaciones de Diseño Gráfico (ico-D, por sus siglas en inglés), antes denominada Icograda, es un organismo mundial de la comunicación visual y el diseño gráfico.

On 27 April, every year we celebrate the anniversary of our founding with World Design Day (WDD). This year our theme is ’Be Professional!’, a reflection on the designer’s role, not only in designing well, but our greater responsibilities towards humanity, the planet and culture. What does it mean to be professional? When we define lawyers, doctors or architects as being professionals, it has to do with the public commitment to a high standard of performance, to integrity, and to public service. We might also define professionalism as an adherence to a professional code of conduct and having a formalised process of review of these codes through a professional association. As designers, our professionalism rests on three foundations, the quality of the work we produce, the way we conduct ourselves in the pursuit of our work (do we have integrity? are we transparent with our clients? do we respect the IP of our fellow creatives?) and lastly, and perhaps most importantly, how seriously we take our responsibilities towards society, the environment, the design community and the people affected by our designs. In the next week, we will share some of our ideas about being a professional designer and we hope that you will join in on the discussions. WDD is an opportunity to recognise the value of design and its capacity for change in the world, marking the anniversary of the establishment of the International Council of Design on 27 April 1963. Esta asociación fue fundada en 1963 en Londres, Inglaterra. En 1991, Icograda junto con la Organización de las Naciones Unidas impulsaron la iniciativa de celebrar el Día Mundial del Diseño, el cual coincidió con el aniversario de ico-D. Sin embargo, en 2012 este día cambia de nombre por el Día Mundial del Diseño de la comunicación.

Debido a la pandemia de covid-19 para la edición de este año, ico-D propuso una celebración virtual. Los diseñadores podrán participar a través de sus redes sociales en la celebración, donde podrán discutir sobre la profesión y compartir historias.
